Srinagar, Sep 11 : As National Conference and PDP have announced to stay away from upcoming Urban Local Body and Panchayat elections, J&K Congress is holding an important meeting of its core group tomorrow before submitting a report to central leadership for a final call about the participation in the polls.
“There is a core group meeting tomorrow morning. We met leaders from different parts of Valley today”. Ghulam Ahmad Mir, JKPCC president, told GNS.
We are assessing ground situation and are preparing a report by tomorrow morning,” Mir said.
“Possibly one or two of our leaders will fly to New Delhi thereafter and they will talk to central leadership on the ground situation and we will take the view.’
Earlier a delegation of Indian National Congress led by G.A. Mir, President J&K Pradesh Congress Committee, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today.
“We discussed pros and cons and boycott by regional parties and its impacts. Besides ground situation, and security situation came under discussion,” he said, adding that governor house was only door to knock in absence of the elected government.
An official spokesman said the delegation discussed with Governor about their concerns relating to the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies polls and shared their views on various aspects of these elections including the ground situation.
The members apprised Governor about various development needs of their respective areas and overall equitable development of all the three regions of the State, the spokesman said.
The Governor emphasized the importance of empowerment of people through the establishment of local self-governing institutions which will strengthen democratic framework at the grass root level and ensure direct participation of people in the development programmes of their villages and towns, the spokesman added.
The delegation comprised Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Vaqar Rasool Wani, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Mohd. Amin Bhat, Peerzada Mohammad Syed, Tariq Hamid Karra, Taj Mohi U din, Farooq Andrabi, Surinder Singh Channi, Mrs. KhemlataWakhloo, Abdul Gani Khan and Nissar Mundo. (GNS)
