SRINAGAR, July 19: : State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) has registered a case against some employees of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) for committing fraud worth over Rs 17.80 lakh on account of transportation charges. After preliminary inquiry, an FIR No, 18/2017 U/S 5(1) (c) 5(1) (d) r/w 5(2) J&K PC Act Svt. 2006 Section 120-B, RPC was registered for thorough investigation.
The verification conducted into the allegations revealed that Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CA&PD) J&K procures foodgrains through FCI from Punjab and Haryana and stores the food grains at FCI store Drugmulla, Kupwara. However, the official sold out the said food grains outside the State and only came up with the challans of these trucks to FCI store Drugmulla, Kupwara so as to manage the withdrawal of transportation charges causing loss to the state exchequer.
The officials of FCI and CAPD, Kupwara and others in league with each other and under a well-knit criminal conspiracy by misuse and abuse of their official position, have committed misappropriation which resulted in loss to the tune of Rs 17,80,200 on account of misappropriation of rice and loss to the tune of Rs 3,22,000 on account of carriage charges to the State exchequer. Accordingly, a case has been registered in Police Station Vigilance Organization Kashmir.(Agencies)
