Srinagar, Oct 12, KNT: The Habakadal area of Kashmir’s capital Srinagar witnessed a protest today, with scores of female residents blocking the road and disrupting traffic flow.

Frustrated with the acute drinking water shortage, the demonstrators raised slogans against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, accusing authorities of ignoring their repeated pleas.

The protest led to a massive traffic jam, causing inconvenience to commuters. However, the protesters remained resolute, demanding immediate attention to the long-standing water crisis.

This is not the first time Habakadal has witnessed protests over water scarcity. Despite previous assurances, authorities have failed to address the issue, leaving residents to suffer.

“We have been facing this problem for years, and our voices have fallen on deaf ears,” said one of the female protesters to the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

Another protester said: “With a new government being formed, we hope our newly elected representative, Shameema Firdous, will take note of this crisis and resolve it without delay.” [KNT]
