Sopore, Jun 28 (KNO): Amid water scarcity in Sopore town, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Sopore S A Raina Wednesday asked Jal Shakti department to hire more tankers to meet the crisis in the area in wake of Eid-ul-Adha.
Addressing a press conference, ADC as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) admitted that the north Kashmir town is facing a severe water crisis and is getting water supply for only one hour a day, which is unacceptable.
“I have personally taken up the matter with the higher ups and have proposed a project worth Rs 55 crores project, which stands approved by the Jal Shakhti department, he said.
“As of now, the department concerned has been asked to fix the leakages, wherever needed,” he said.
Raina said, there is a dire need of rationalization of supplies so that tail end residents will get supplies.
“People who are facing water crisis need to inform the office to avail water tanker service. The department has been asked to hire more tankers to meet the crisis,” the ADC said.
Notably, Sopore town is facing a severe crisis while the residents have hit the streets time and again but to no avail.

“Amidst scorching heat, we are being forced to walk miles to get water to quench the thirst and meet daily needs,” Sopore residents said.
“We approached the Jal Shakhti department several times to redress our grievance where we have always been assured of early redressal,” said Krankshivan colony residents.
“How long are we supposed to face the water scarcity,” they questioned.
