Srinagar, May 28: Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Mehmood Shah has strongly condemned the government forces’ “atrocities” in Shopian including “the intrusion into house and setting apple orchards on fire”. He questioned New Delhi’s Ramadan ceasefire.
LeT spokesperson Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi in a statement issued to GNS quoted Mehmood Shah as saying, “It was only two days ago when the extension in ceasefire was being discussed. We knew long before that this is nothing but a drama and an effort to deceive the international community. Can anybody testify that the atrocities against innocent Kashmiris and the killing of youth after Ramadan ceasefire have stopped? Are our women and children safe?”
Lashkar chief asked the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to answer whether the Ramadan ceasefire was imposed to minimise the resistance against India’s atrocities?
“It was for such reasons that Major Gogoi and his likes can play with the honour of women. Can Mehbooba Mufti count the numbers of Hurriyat leaders released from captivity after ceasefire? The numbers have increased,” he said adding, “The ceasefire was nothing but to install hurdles in the path of Kashmiri stone pelters and to increase the distance between the public and freedom fighters. It is because of the fact that Indian forces cannot face the indigenous freedom struggle.”
Mehmood Shah said those who were commending the ceasefire must open their eyes now as India had never been honest in the solution to Kashmir conflict. “It (New Delhi) has always resorted to treacherous ways. The case of Kashmir in United Nations, Hyderabad Dakkan, Junagadh, Manawadar and many others are evident to this claim,” he said.
LeT chief appealed people to pay special attention to worshipping in the month of Ramadan. “The second last phase of Ramadan has started. The prayers of night and the reading of Qur’an must be ensured. In our prayers, we must remember our martyrs and those who went through immense sacrifices. We must pray to end the illegal Indian occupation,” he said. (GNS)
