Srinagar, Nov 17: The Picturesque Sonamarg, with a chilly -5.3°C, Gulmarg at -1.8°C, and Pahalgam at -2.0°C, recorded their season’s lowest temperatures on Sunday, following fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of the Kashmir valley on Saturday.

The tourist destinations of Sonamarg in Ganderbal, Gulmarg in Baramulla, and Pahalgam in Anantnag, along with other higher reaches of the Kashmir valley, received snowfall while the plains were lashed by rains on Saturday, resulting in the dip in temperatures.

The minimum temperature during the intervening nights of Saturday and Sunday at Sonamarg was recorded at -5.3°C, Gulmarg at -1.8°C, and Pahalgam at 2.0°C, the first lowest during this season.

However, the night temperature in other weather stations of the Kashmir valley was recorded at 0 to 4°C above normal.

The fresh snowfall brings much cheer to the faces of the tourists staying at the tourist destinations.

The day temperature in all the weather stations of the Kashmir valley also dropped by 2-9 °C on the previous day.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded the maximum temperature at 12.2°C on Saturday, and it was 3.7°C below normal.

The weather improved on Sunday, and the sun appeared in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley and is likely to remain dry till November 23, the MeT office said.

The MeT office predicted that another wet spell is likely to occur on November 24 with the possibility of light rain and light snow over higher reaches and at scattered places of Kashmir and isolated places of Jammu division.

Thereafter, the weather is very likely to remain generally dry till November 30, it said.–(UNI)
