Srinagar, Feb 21: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has strongly condemned the “lynching” of a Pakistani prisoner in Rajasthan’s Jaipur jail, saying the aftermath of Pulwama attack has created an unending wave of hatred and humiliation of Muslims in general and Kashmiris in particular.
“Every city, state and institution is infected by the jingoism and pseudo nationalism virus and Indian jails also seem to be engulfed in this madness. Satisfying their urge and lust of Muslim blood, goons from the majority community in Jaipur jail have targeted a fellow prisoner from Pakistan and lunched him to death, glorifying and satisfying their patriotic sentiments,” Geelani said in a statement issued to GNS.
“When dark and gloomy clouds of hyper-nationalism were looming low and the thirst of blood of Kashmiris was at its zenith, Sikh community and its brave youth dared the Hindutva monster and extended their helping hand to the oppressed and depressed Kashmiris,” he said.
Geelani thanked Sikhs from the core of his heart for “this moral, physical, financial and timely support” and said: “All the minorities are at the mercy of majority and our Sikh brothers too have experienced the trauma and bruises, be it 1984 Sikh riots or killing of 36 Sikhs in Chattisinghpora to welcome the then US President Bill Clinton.”
“This gesture of humanity and universal brotherhood by Sikh community will be remembered by every conscious soul especially Kashmiris and we as a nation are indebted to it,” he added.
The pro-freedom leader said Kashmiri prisoners in jails outside state are scared and are living under a constant threat to their life. Such fear psychoses has caused panic not only to them but their families as well, he said.
Hurriyat (G) chairman appealed the global human rights agencies particularly the Red Cross and Amnesty International to ensure the safety and well being of every prisoner in Indian jails.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (G) while commenting on some media reports of “withdrawal of security to Syed Ali Geelani” said this is a brazen lie and such “ridiculous” reports need only to be laughed at.
“Delhi rulers and their local stooges always try to hoodwink the world by this unrealistic and false propaganda by their paid media houses. Geelani Sahab was neither provided any security nor has he requested for it. He continues to be confined to his house for the last 9 years, but forcibly occupying the gates and them claiming it to be the security is such a ridiculous report that government and its agencies should be ashamed of,” a Hurriyat (G) spokesperson said.
“Similar false statement was aired by jingoistic media channels in 2014 floods when they claimed that staunch anti-India and pro-freedom leader Syed Ali Geelani is rescued by Indian army, but this brazen lie was exposed when everybody here knew that Geelani’s residence was safe and no water logging was in that area,” he said.
