SRINAGAR, Oct 19 : D C Raina resigned on Friday as the Advocate General of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Raina formally submitted his resignation to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha.

Reports suggest that Raina resigned to allow the government, led by Omar Abdullah, to appoint a new Advocate General.

Under the new Business Rules of Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor is not bound by the Cabinet’s recommendation on the appointment of the Advocate General.

D C Raina was appointed as the first Advocate General of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on November 1, 2019.

He had previously held the position of Advocate General in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir three times—in September 2008, February 2016, and July 2018. — (KIMS)
