CIK searches Srinagar Central Jail, seizes digital devices in terror case

Srinagar, Apr 25 (KNO): The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted searches at Central Jail Srinagar in connection with a terror-linked case and seized digital communication devices, officials said on Saturday.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the searches were carried out on April 25 following a warrant issued by a special court designated under the NIA Act in a case registered as FIR No. 06/2023 at Police Station CI Kashmir.

He said the case was registered under Sections 153-A, 505, 121 and 120-B of the IPC, along with Sections 13 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.“Acting on technical inputs about the presence of suspicious digital signatures inside the jail premises, search operations were conducted across multiple barracks and blocks in coordination with jail authorities,” he added.

The official said that during the operation, digital communication devices and other incriminating material were recovered and seized.The seized devices will be sent for forensic examination to establish possible links and identify any wider network connected with the case, he said, adding that an inquiry has also been initiated into how the devices were brought inside the high-security prison and the role of any facilitators involved.

The official said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb misuse of communication devices in sensitive establishments, including prisons, and to investigate terror-related activities in the Union Territory.—(KNO)
