DC Ganderbal reviews implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules 2026

  • Directs strengthened Monitoring Mechanism

 

GANDERBAL, MAY 19: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore today chaired a meeting to review the implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules-2026 in urban and rural areas of the district.

 

During the meeting, the DC reviewed the existing system of solid waste management, including waste collection, segregation and disposal mechanisms across the district, and stressed the need for effective implementation of sanitation measures.

 

He also reviewed the mechanism for handling bulk waste generators and emphasized strict adherence to prescribed waste management norms.

 

The DC directed the concerned officers to ensure source segregation of waste at all levels and called for intensified awareness and enforcement measures to strengthen compliance.

 

Emphasizing strict enforcement of the Solid Waste Management Rules, the DC directed officers to take action against violators and ensure imposition of penalties wherever required. He particularly stressed that bulk waste generators violating the norms must be penalized.

 

To strengthen oversight and implementation, the DC directed the constitution of a dedicated monitoring cell to supervise and monitor implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026 across all blocks of the district.

 

The DC also instructed all Block Development Officers to issue proper garbage collection rosters to ensure timely and systematic waste disposal within their respective jurisdictions.

 

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chief Planning Officer, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, District Officer Pollution Control Committee, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Ganderbal and all Block Development Officers of the district.
