Ganderbal, May 25 (KNZ/TMJ): Authorities on Monday intensified market checking drives in Kangan, Gund and adjoining areas of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district ahead of Eid-ul-Adha to ensure strict compliance with food safety and consumer protection norms.

Officials said the joint inspection drive was carried out by teams from the Revenue Department, Police, Health Department and Animal Husbandry Department under the overall supervision of the Food Safety wing.

During the drive, markets, food outlets and other business establishments were inspected to ensure adherence to the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Several violations were detected during the inspections, following which a fine of Rs 5,400 was recovered from erring traders and shopkeepers, officials told Kashmir News Zone–The Media Journal.

The authorities directed shopkeepers and food business operators to maintain proper hygiene, display rate lists and refrain from selling substandard or expired food items, particularly in view of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha festivities.

Officials also warned that strict action would be taken against violators during future inspection drives.(KNZ-TMJ)
