Residents claim around 20 cattle have died in Shallabugh; veterinary teams deployed to assess the situation

Ganderbal, Sep 3 (KNZ/TMJ): More than 350 cattle have reportedly been affected by suspected Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in several areas of Shallabugh in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, while residents have claimed that around 20 animals have died.

Bilal Ahmad, a resident of Shallabugh, said more than 350 cattle had been affected in the area and claimed that nearly 20 animals had died. The figures could not be independently verified.

The reported cases have raised concern among livestock owners in the area, particularly as Kashmir has witnessed outbreaks of LSD in the past.

Residents said cattle had been vaccinated during the previous outbreak and questioned the recurrence of the disease despite the vaccination. They also sought effective measures to prevent the reported spread and protect livestock.

Following the reports, the Animal Husbandry Department has deployed veterinary teams to the affected areas to assess the situation and examine the cattle.

The teams are expected to ascertain the extent of the reported cases, verify the condition of the affected animals and look into the reported deaths. Further measures will be taken based on the veterinary assessment.(KNZ/TMJ)
