Woman, 35-Year-Old Local Man Among Victims; Police Initiate Legal Proceedings

Ganderbal, June 15 (KNZ/TMJ): The bodies of a man and a woman were recovered from a power canal in the Gund area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday, bringing a massive rescue operation to an end after the duo was feared drowned, officials said.

An official told Kashmir News Zone-the Media journal tahtThe male victim was identified as Adil Ahmad Tantray (35), a resident of Gund. The identity of the woman has not been disclosed.

Officials said a large-scale search and rescue operation was launched after information was received that two persons had allegedly drowned in the power canal near Ramwari in Gund. Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, CRPF personnel and local volunteers were pressed into service to trace the missing individuals.

The woman’s body was recovered during the initial phase of the operation, while rescuers continued an intensive search for the missing man, combing the canal and adjoining areas for several hours before locating his body.

The incident attracted scores of anxious residents to the site as rescue personnel worked relentlessly throughout the day to locate the victims.

With the recovery of both bodies, the rescue operation was formally concluded. Police have initiated legal proceedings and are investigating the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.(KNZ/TMJ)
