CSB–CSR&TI Pampore Hosts Key Meet to Boost Sericulture in J&K;Joint Strategy Formulated to Achieve Target of 225 Metric Tonnes of Raw Silk Production by 2030–31 in J&K

 

Srinagar:A review and monitoring meeting on sericulture development in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir was held at CSB–CSR&TI, Pampore, under the chairmanship of Shri Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director, Sericulture Development Department. The meeting was attended by Dr. N. Sakthivel, Director, CSB–CSR&TI, along with scientists and departmental officials.

 

 

 

Discussions focused on strategies to achieve the target of 225 metric tonnes of raw silk production by 2030–31. Key areas included preparedness for upcoming silkworm rearing seasons, disease monitoring, crop surveillance, and strengthening training and extension programmes for 2026–27.

 

 

 

Emphasis was laid on synchronized brushing schedules, expansion into new sericulture areas, and adoption of region-specific scientific practices. The meeting highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts, modern technologies, and effective stakeholder collaboration to enhance bivoltine silk production and rural livelihoods.

 

 

 

The meeting concluded with a commitment to work jointly towards sustainable growth and long-term development of the sericulture sector in Jammu & Kashmir.
