SOG Ganderbal Rescues Critically ill Shepherd from Remote Forest Area in a Five-Hour Life-Saving Operation

Ganderbal : Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to public service and humanitarian duty, a Special Operations Group (SOG) team of Ganderbal Police successfully rescued a critically ill man from the remote high-altitude forests of Kaindalwa Top, Anderwan, after he suffered a severe cardiac emergency.

The rescued individual, Najeeb Khan, a resident of Anderwan, Ganderbal, had been staying at his seasonal dhok (mountain shelter) in the upper reaches of Kaindalwa Top. Accompanied by his two sons, he had started descending towards Anderwan on horseback after experiencing severe chest pain and deteriorating health conditions.

During a routine movement in the area, the SOG covert party encountered Najeeb Khan in distress. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the police personnel immediately provided first aid, administered water and emergency medication, and attempted to stabilize his condition. Despite these efforts, his health continued to deteriorate.

Realizing that every minute was crucial, the SOG team swiftly launched a rescue operation. One of Najeeb Khan’s sons was sent back to inform family members at the dhok, while the police personnel, assisted by the victim’s other son, began the arduous task of evacuating him through the dense forest terrain.

The rescue operation proved extremely challenging due to the rugged mountainous landscape, thick forests, and absence of any motorable road. The police personnel carried the ailing man on their shoulders for long stretches, taking turns while navigating steep and difficult terrain. At one point, after covering nearly a kilometre downhill, the team was forced to halt due to the worsening condition of the patient and exhaustion caused by the difficult terrain.

Meanwhile, local villagers coordinated with the rescue team and arranged a makeshift stretcher. After several hours of relentless effort, the stretcher reached the rescue party, enabling them to safely continue the evacuation. Throughout the operation, the team continuously monitored Najeeb Khan’s condition and provided necessary assistance to keep him stable.

After nearly five hours of sustained rescue efforts, the team successfully brought Najeeb Khan out of the remote forest area and ensured his immediate transfer to a hospital through an ambulance for urgent medical treatment.

Later that night, family members informed the rescue team that Najeeb Khan’s condition had stabilized. The following day, Najeeb Khan personally contacted the police personnel to express his gratitude and appreciation for the timely intervention that saved his life. He also conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the Ganderbal Police and entire team involved in the life saving rescue operation.

This rescue operation stands as a shining example of the dedication, courage, and compassion displayed by Jammu & Kashmir Police personnel, who continue to serve not only as guardians of law and order but also as protectors of human life in the most challenging circumstances.

“In Service of the People and the Nation” is not merely a motto—it is a commitment that the men and women of J&K Police uphold every day, often in remote and hazardous environments, placing the welfare of citizens above all else.
