Jammu, June 30: In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested a Patwari and his associate for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹70,000 in Jammu.
The accused have been identified as Shashi Kumar, Patwari of Patwar Halqa Gole, and his associate Harkeerat Singh. The arrests followed a complaint alleging that the Patwari had demanded the bribe for issuing two revenue extracts (Fards).
After verifying the complaint, the ACB registered FIR No. 08/2026 under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A specially constituted trap team laid a successful trap and allegedly caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe. The tainted currency was recovered from their possession in the presence of independent witnesses, following which both were arrested on the spot.
The ACB also conducted searches at the residences of the accused as part of the investigation.
Further investigation into the case is in progress.
