Srinagar, June 30(GNS): Srinagar recorded the season’s second hottest day on Tuesday as the mercury touched 35.2°C amid continuing heatwave conditions across the Kashmir Valley, the Meteorological Centre said.

An official of the MeT Centre Srinagar told GNS that a shift in weather has been forecast, with rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds expected over the next few days across Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the latest nowcast, spells of rain and thundershowers are likely at many places in Poonch, Rajouri, Shopian, Budgam and Kulgam in the next three hours. A few places along the Reasi–Banihal–Ramban axis, Gulmarg, Uri and Sonamarg may also receive rainfall.

Brief intense showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely at isolated places in Poonch, Rajouri, Budgam, Shopian, Kulgam and adjoining areas over the next one to two hours, the department said.

From July 1 to 5, one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are forecast at many places. Heavy rainfall, brief intense showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds may occur at isolated locations between July 2 and 4.

July 6 to 8 is expected to remain generally hot and humid, with brief spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at scattered to many places.

The MeT has warned that heatwave or heatwave-like conditions will persist till June 30. Heavy rainfall and intense showers during July 2–4 may trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable locations in Jammu Division and adjoining South Kashmir.

Temporary waterlogging is likely in a few low-lying areas on July 2 and 3.

Residents have been advised to stay away from nallahs, streams and landslide-prone areas, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during thunderstorms, and take precautions against lightning and strong winds. (GNS)
