Srinagar, Oct 30: Lok Sabha member and dissident ruling National Conference leader, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, on Friday issued a public invitation for a November 3 event in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, when he is likely to announce his resignation from both the NC and the Lok Sabha.
Posters have appeared in many places seeking the presence of people at the event. A major political announcement is expected from the Srinagar MP.
The poster circulated in the name of the Lok Sabha member announces a programme titled “Resignation Announcement” at Behisht-e-Zehra Park in Budgam, near the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
According to the invitation, the event will be held on November 3, and the general public has been invited to attend. The poster describes the programme as a major political announcement and carries the message, “Voice of the Voiceless”.
However, the exact details and circumstances behind the proposed resignation announcement have not been specified in the invitation. The November 3 event is expected to draw political attention, with the MP’s next political move likely to be closely watched. The poster announces a resignation-related event.
After he was elected to the Lok Sabha during the 2024 general elections, Ruhullah has remained disgruntled with the NC, saying the party has not fulfilled promises made to voters in its election manifesto.
Ruhullah did not participate in the poll campaign of NC candidate Aga Syed Mehmood, who fought the by-election from the Budgam Assembly seat last year. The seat had fallen vacant after NC vice president Omar Abdullah resigned from the Budgam Assembly seat. He had won two seats, Budgam and Ganderbal. He chose to retain Ganderbal, thereby necessitating by-elections in Budgam.
The NC candidate, Aga Syed Mehmood, lost the Budgam Assembly bypoll to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi.
Speculations about Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi joining the Congress party after his resignation on November 3 have not been confirmed so far, either by the Congress party or Ruhullah himself.–(IANS)
