KVK Gandabal organises special workshop on Prevention of Rabies

Ganderbal 28 Sep :On the eve of ‘World Rabies Day’ KVK Ganderbal yesterday organized a workshop at New Dreamland Educational Institute Ganderbal
The programme was attended by veterinary officers, paravets, livestock owners, teachers, students and scientists from veterinary and medical background.
In the backdrop of this year’s theme – Rabies: “Zero by 30” special awareness lectures regarding this deadly zoonotic disease were delivered by the subject experts.
Dr Sabia Qureshi, Senior Scientist and renowned Microbiologist, SKUAST-Kashmir on the occasion delivered an exhaustive lecture regarding the occurrences, spread, symptoms, prevention, control and management of the disease.
She pointed out that increased incidences of Rabies among children and elderly people particularly in rural areas are due to lack of awareness among the masses regarding the disease and increased number of stray dogs.
Noted academician and Deputy Chief Education officer Ganderbal, Seikh Gayas-ud-Din on the occasion highlighted the importance of organizing such need and theme based community oriented awareness programmes.
He impressed upon the participating officers, veterinarians, teachers and students to serve as representatives for spreading awareness in the community and help in eradicating such a deadly disease.
Earlier Dr Parvaiz Reshi, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science), KVK-Ganderbal, SKUAST-Kashmir pointed out the importance of celebrating the day.
According to Reshi “The day is annually celebrated to raise awareness about prevention and to highlight progress in defeating the disease”.
This year’s theme has been chosen in the global conference of rabies elimination, as zero human deaths by 2030 and was agreed by World Organizations (WHO), (FAO) and (WOAH), Reshi added.
Later an interaction programme regarding rabies was held in which queries by participants were answered by the subject experts.
SKUAST-K scientists, Dr. J.A. Bhat, Dr. F.A. Ahanger and training incharge New Dreamland School, Zahoor Ahmad Dar also spoke on the occasion.
