Srinagar, April 7 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir reported one COVID-19 death and 15 positive cases on Tuesday, taking the death count to three and overall patient tally to 125.
Among all the cases, 118 are active as four of them including a 67-year-old woman, the Valley’s first COVID-19 patient, recovered and has been discharged along with three others from Jammu while three other patients, all from Kashmir, have died.
The nine of the ten fresh cases in the Kashmir in last 24 hours has pushed Valley’s tally of active cases to 94 while six cases were reported from Jammu which now has 24 active cases.
Test reports of a 52-year-old, who died at SMHS hospital at Srinagar yesterday, is among the fresh cases in Kashmir, official sources said.
They said that the man, a resident of Gund Jahinger in Bandipora was admitted to SMHS hospital on Monday and died on the same day. His test samples returned positive for coronavirus disease on Tuesday afternoon, making him the third case of death due to the dreaded disease in the Valley.
Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital Dr Nazir Chudhary confirmed to GNS that the man died “last evening”. “His test report for coronavirus was received in the late afternoon today and it came out to be positive,” he said. The body was not handed over to family yesterday and was kept in hospital’s mortuary as a precautionary measure awaiting the test report, he said. “We were waiting for the test reports and now that it has returned positive, we will follow guidelines required in such deaths,” he said.
Reyaz Ahmad, brother-in-law of deceased told GNS over phone, that the man was admitted to hospital on Monday. “No doctor visited him despite our requests. At 3 p.m. two paramedical staffers came and administered two injections to him,” said Reyaz who claimed to have accompanied him to the hospital for “checkup.”
“He was diabetic and hypertension patient and we went to the hospital for ‘check-up’. He was admitted to hospital and kept inside the ward which we came to know has been kept for COVID-19 management,” he said.
He said that deceased had not travelled outside Hajin in the recent past. “He was orchardist and was at home from last several months,” he added.
Meanwhile nine other fresh cases, sources said include three are from Lal Bazar and include 9-year-old and 11-year-old daughters and nephew of a COVID-19 patient who had returned recently from Kolkata with his test coming positive on March 17. They were under quarantine at Zakura facility and have now been moved to CD hospital, they said.
Two other persons are residents of Bandipora who were admitted to SKIMS yesterday and included a 23-year-old man who has stated to authorities that he has neither travelled to affected place nor has he come in contact with the previous COVID-19. The other person from the northern Kashmir district is a 58-year-old man who had returned home from Maharashtra recently.
Regarding five other cases, sources said they include a 35-year-old man from Tangmarg, a contact of previous COVID-19 patient and a 51-year-old female from Sopore, also a contact of a previous patient.
The penultimate of the fresh cases include a 25-year-old woman from Eidgah Srinagar and she had come in contact with the previous patients from the area.
The last of the cases include a 70-year-old woman from Baramulla whose husband tested positive for the disease last week, they added.
So far Kashmir recorded three deaths including today’s fatality. Kashmir recorded the second death due to the novel coronavirus on March 29 when a man in his 50s from Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district died at Chest Disease hospital. He died three days after a 65-year-old man from Hyderpora Srinagar, originally a resident of Sopore, died of the disease at the same hospital which has since been converted into a Covid-19 hospital.
Meanwhile, the Government informed that 37713 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance in J&K.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 125 positive cases, 118 are Active Positive, 04 have recovered and 03 have died.
Furthermore, 9209 persons have been kept in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 567 in Hospital Quarantine, 118 in hospital isolation and 20735 under home surveillance. Besides, 7084 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period.
The Bulletin further said that till date 1900 samples have been sent for testing of which 1763 have tested as negative, and 12 reports are awaited till April 07. (GNS)
