Jammu, Sept 09(GNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday trapped and arrested a Treasury Clerk for demanding and accepting a bribe in Rajouri district.
In a handout to GNS, the ACB said that the accused has been identified as Khadam Hussain, Clerk posted in Treasury Office, Kalakote.
According to ACB, a written complaint was received from a retired Class-IV employee of the Health Department, who had to withdraw his gratuity amount of ₹50,000 from the Treasury Office, Kalakote.
The complainant alleged that when he approached the Treasury Office, the clerk demanded ₹25,000 as bribe for processing his gratuity case. Despite the complainant pleading his poor financial condition, the official did not relent. Later the deal was settled at ₹20,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached ACB.
Acting on the complaint, ACB verified the allegations and registered a case. A trap team of ACB Police Station Rajouri was constituted which caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹20,000 from the complainant.
The accused was arrested on the spot and searches were later conducted at his residential premises in Rajouri.
Further investigation is underway.(GNS)
