Anantnag Police Registers 408 NDPS Cases, Arrests 476 Drug Peddlers, Destroys 2,000 Kg Contraband during 09 Months

 

Anantnag October 01: Continuing its sustained and aggressive campaign against drug trafficking and narcotics abuse, Anantnag Police has recorded significant achievements during the Nine Months of year 2026.

 

During the last nine months, 408 FIRs were registered under various provisions of the NDPS Act and 476 drug peddlers were arrested for narcotics trafficking and related activities, while more than 542 kilograms of contraband substances and ₹27,52,976 in cash were seized. Properties worth approximately ₹60 crore were attached in 35 cases, and 20 illegal properties worth ₹20 crore linked to narcotics proceeds were demolished. As part of destruction drives, 2,000 kilograms of narcotic substances were destroyed after due legal process, while illegal narcotic cultivation over 305 marlas of land was destroyed. Over 271 marlas of government land encroached upon by drug peddlers were retrieved. Female drug peddlers and 13 female cultivators were arrested, while eight government employees were found involved in drug-related cases and legal action was initiated against them.

 

Further, 16 drug peddlers were detained under the PIT NDPS Act, and 28 driving licences and 22 RCs were cancelled in connection with narcotics-related offences. A total of 295 Narco-CASOs were conducted across the district to curb the movement and supply of narcotics, while 220 medical shops were inspected jointly with concerned departments, leading to the detection of 19 violations and initiation of legal action. To strengthen enforcement, 213 Investigation Officers handling NDPS cases were also imparted training at DPO Anantnag on legal procedures and evidence handling.

 

Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicating the drug menace from society and appeals to the general public, especially the youth, to cooperate in identifying and reporting drug-related activities. Public support remains vital in this collective fight to safeguard the future of our society.
