Ramban, July 15 : Former Sarpanch Mohd Iqbal Tantary died on Monday after shooting stones struck the vehicle he was travelling in near Trishul Morh on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district.

Tantary, a resident of Seeri in Ramban, was hit when boulders rolled down from the hillock and struck his vehicle. He sustained critical injuries and was declared dead on the spot, an official told GNS.

The incident has left the local community in deep shock. Residents and public representatives expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

Authorities said road clearance and traffic restoration work was undertaken immediately after the incident.

Shooting stones are a frequent hazard on the Jammu–Srinagar NH-44 stretch, especially during rain and in landslide-prone areas like Ramban.(GNS)
