Ganderbal Police Destroy Illicit Poppy Cultivation, Register Two Cases

Ganderbal, Apr 25: Ganderbal Police have detected and destroyed illicit poppy cultivation at two locations in the district and registered separate cases under the NDPS Act, officials said on Saturday.

During routine patrolling in Watlar village under Police Station Lar, a patch of land was found cultivated with poppy plants.

Preliminary enquiry revealed the involvement of one Ghulam Rasool Sheikh, a resident of Watlar, following which a case (FIR No. 13/2026) was registered at Police Station Lar and investigation was taken up.

In a separate operation, police under Police Station Kheerbhawani detected illicit opium poppy cultivation on agricultural land at Darakhpora.

A case (FIR No. 10/2026) under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kheerbhawani and further investigation is underway.

Police said the drive against drug-related activities will continue and urged the public to share information about illegal cultivation and trafficking.
