Ganderbal Police seize 8 vehicles involved in illegal mining

Ganderbal, May 18: Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have seized eight vehicles, including five tippers and three tractors, for allegedly being used in illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals, officials said on Monday.

The action was carried out in the jurisdiction of Police Station Lar and Police Station Kheerbawani as part of an ongoing drive against illegal mining activities in the district, they said.

According to police, the vehicles were found extracting and transporting mining material without valid permission, in violation of prescribed norms.

The seized vehicles were later handed over to the concerned Geology and Mining Department, which imposed fines under the relevant legal provisions, officials said.

Police said the crackdown on illegal mining will continue and appealed to the public to cooperate in protecting natural resources and reporting unlawful activities.
