GANDERBAL, NOVEMBER 10(knz):A tragic incident occurred in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district after a girl allegedly jumped into a hydropower canal near Bela Wassan during the night hours, officials said on Monday.

Acting swiftly after receiving the information, Ganderbal Police along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Ganderbal launched a joint search operation in the canal area.

Locals of the area also assisted the rescue teams during the operation, officials added.

After sustained efforts, the SDRF team, assisted by Ganderbal Police and local volunteers, successfully retrieved the body early Monday morning.

The deceased, whose identity has been withheld, was later shifted to District Hospital (DH) Ganderbal for medico-legal formalities, a police official said.

Ganderbal Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further proceedings to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death.(knz)
