Jammu Railway Recovers ₹62 Lakh in One Month

Massive drive sees action against 8,354 passengers; RPF, GRP in joint teams for enforcement

Jammu, Feb 1: In a decisive move to restore order and plug revenue drains, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway cracked down heavily on fare evaders, recovering a substantial penalty of nearly Rs 62 lakhs from more than 8,300 ticketless passengers in January alone, senior officials announced on Sunday.

The sweeping, intelligence-driven operation was conducted across the division following a “special enforcement strategy” formulated by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Jammu) Uchit Singhal, focusing on high-risk stations and specific train routes.

According to official figures released, the month-long rigorous vigilance led to punitive action in a remarkable 8,354 instances of unauthorized or irregular travel.

Elaborating on the modus operandi, railway authorities stated that major stations were completely sealed during checks, with teams manning all entry and exit points. Advanced data analytics were employed to pinpoint trains and corridors with habitual ticketless travel, leading to the strategic positioning of dedicated squads.

“In a pioneering drive for 2026, we carried out unannounced checks, particularly targeting late-night and early-morning services, based on a specialized plan. The outcome underscores the accuracy and coordinated effort of our personnel,” SDCM Uchit Singhal informed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).

He stressed that the initiative aimed at a broader systemic change. “Beyond revenue recovery, our mission is to create a strong deterrent against ticketless travel and to cultivate a culture of compliance among passengers. This ensures rightful passengers enjoy a secure and comfortable journey,” Singhal said.

The campaign featured synchronized action by integrated teams from the Commercial Department, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and Government Railway Police (GRP) to guarantee stringent enforcement and lawfulness.

Officials affirmed that this stringent ticket-checking regime will be sustained and expanded to cover all stations and trains within the division in the forthcoming months.–(KNS)
