Leh, September 28: Leh Police has successfully solved a major jewellery theft case within three days, leading to the arrest of the alleged kingpin and recovery of stolen jewellery worth approximately ₹70 lakh, along with ₹4.30 lakh in cash.

The case came to light after Sunil Kumar, a resident of Rajasthan and owner of a jewellery shop at Nowshara Gali, Leh, submitted a complaint regarding a burglary at his shop. Following the complaint, FIR No. 204/2026 under Sections 305(a) and 331(4) of the BNS was registered at Police Station Leh.

During the investigation, police found that the theft had been carried out in a planned manner. The accused allegedly avoided the main shutter and entered through an adjacent tin door before breaking through the stone wall of the shop. They reportedly stole jewellery worth around ₹80–90 lakh along with cash and also cut the CCTV wires and removed the DVR.

With no significant clues available at the scene, investigators examined CCTV footage and other technical inputs. A suspicious white vehicle and three persons were noticed moving near Polo Ground during the late hours. Further verification through Municipality Leh, Police Data Centre Leh and other technical and human intelligence inputs helped police identify the vehicle and develop leads about the suspects.

A police team comprising SI Dorjay Zangpo, SI Stanzin Konkhain and other personnel was subsequently deputed to Pattan, Baramulla, where, with the assistance of Police Station Pattan, the team arrested the alleged main accused, identified as Nisar Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rahman Dar, resident of Chanabal, Mirgund, Pattan, Baramulla.

During the investigation and on the basis of the accused’s disclosure, stolen jewellery worth approximately ₹70 lakh and ₹4.30 lakh in cash was recovered.

Police said the investigation revealed the involvement of three persons, including a juvenile who was allegedly used to enter the shop through the opening made in the wall and bring out the stolen property. Proceedings regarding the juvenile are being initiated as per law.

One of the alleged accomplices remains absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend him. Police said the accused persons are allegedly involved in multiple theft cases registered at different police stations in Kashmir.

Leh Police said the case was worked out through human intelligence, technical surveillance, sustained field investigation and coordinated efforts, resulting in the identification and arrest of the principal accused and substantial recovery of the stolen property.
