GANDERBAL, AUGUST 26:(KNC)Panic gripped residents of Manigam village in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district after a leopard was reportedly spotted roaming in the Durpora Mohalla area on Wednesday, triggering concern among locals.
According to a communication from Police Station Lar, the movement of the wild animal was reported by a reliable source within the jurisdiction of the police station.
The reported presence of the leopard has created fear and apprehension among residents, particularly those living in and around Manigam. Locals have expressed concern over the possibility of an encounter with the animal, especially in residential and vulnerable areas.
Following the report, police have requested the Wildlife Department to immediately deploy a specialised team equipped with the necessary equipment to the area. The team has been urged to take prompt measures to locate and safely capture the leopard and prevent any threat to the local population.
Residents have also urged the authorities to act swiftly and ensure that all necessary precautionary measures are taken to avoid any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, locals have been advised to remain alert, avoid isolated areas and refrain from venturing into vulnerable locations, particularly during times when the leopard may be active, until the animal is safely captured.
