Rajouri/Poonch, April 21, KNT: Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad on Tuesday said that major improvement works on the historic Mughal Road will be carried out this year, with key upgrades already completed and further projects in the pipeline.

The MP said blacktopping of the crucial stretch from Peer Ki Gali to Bufliaz has been completed, improving road conditions along one of the most challenging segments of the route.Highlighting upcoming works, he said a tunnel project on the Mughal Road has been approved and is expected to move into the tendering phase later this year.

The Mughal Road, which connects the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch with south Kashmir, serves as an important alternative link across the Pir Panjal range and plays a key role in regional connectivity.Officials have said that the planned tunnel is expected to improve all-weather connectivity on the route, which often remains affected during winter due to heavy snowfall, particularly near Peer Ki Gali.

The completion of blacktopping work is seen as a step toward improving travel safety and reducing travel time on the mountainous road.The MP said further development of the road will enhance connectivity, boost economic activity, and improve access for residents in the Pir Panjal region. [KNT]
