10-year-old among victims as road crashes and a gas cylinder accident leave families shaken; all referred for specialised treatment

Ganderbal, July 31(KNZ/TMJ): A series of tragic incidents turned Friday into a day of anguish for several families in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, where nine persons, including a 10-year-old boy, were injured in three separate mishaps, officials said.

The most serious incident occurred at Hayan Bridge, where a Xylo vehicle bearing registration number JK10-5974 reportedly went out of control and crashed into a roadside electric pole with a loud impact, leaving all five occupants injured.

An official said the injured were identified as driver Ashgar Ali (27) of Kargil, Hassan Askri, Junaid Iqbal, Liyaqat Ali, and 10-year-old Mohd Danish, all residents of Leh. Passersby and rescuers rushed to the spot, helping evacuate the injured before they were taken to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kangan. Owing to the severity of their injuries, all five were later referred to SKIMS Soura for specialised treatment.

Barely had the shock of the crash settled when another accident was reported from the Prang Gagarpati area of Kangan, where a tipper vehicle bearing registration number JK13-5132 overturned after the driver allegedly lost control. Local residents and emergency responders swiftly rescued the injured driver and shifted him to a nearby hospital. Officials said his condition is stable.

In yet another distressing incident, three residents of Wakura village suffered burn injuries after a gas cylinder leaked inside a hut in the Gund area, triggering an accident that left the victims in agony.

The injured were identified as Abdul Hameed Wani (37), Manzoor Ahmad Ganie (40), and Shahri Yaar Majeed (40). They were initially treated at SDH Kangan before being referred to SKIMS Soura for advanced medical care.

Police have initiated investigations into both road accidents, while authorities are also probing the circumstances that led to the gas cylinder leak.

The back-to-back incidents cast a shadow over the district, serving as a stark reminder of how ordinary moments can change in an instant, leaving families praying for the recovery of their loved ones.(KNZ/TMJ)
