Seriousness Missing’: Aga Ruhullah Criticises J&K Assembly Proceedings

Srinagar, Oct 4(KNZ/TMJ): Srinagar Lok Sabha MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Sunday criticised the functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, saying the seriousness expected from the House was missing and several key issues, including those concerning daily wagers, remained unresolved.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Ruhullah said the Assembly proceedings had lost their seriousness and people were also no longer following the House with the same attention.

“The seriousness of the Assembly proceedings itself has diminished. You may also feel that people no longer follow the Assembly seriously,” he said.

Referring to political issues, Ruhullah said a resolution against the abrogation of Article 370 was brought in the Assembly, while a subsequent resolution on statehood diluted the earlier resolution.

He alleged that the government, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, later stated that the resolution was only about statehood.

“The same Assembly was used to dilute the resolutions that had been passed by it,” Ruhullah said.

Ruhullah also raised the issue of daily wagers and other matters concerning the people, alleging that there was a lack of seriousness in addressing them.

He said frequent confrontations and scenes in the Assembly appeared to take precedence over addressing issues related to the region and governance.

“I felt there was more of an attempt to make reels than to use the Assembly to address the issues of the region and matters of governance. That seriousness was missing,” he said.(KNZ/TMJ)
