WAKURA, GANDERBAL, SEPTEMBER 22 : Six shops were completely gutted in a late-night fire incident in Wakura area of Ganderbal district, resulting in significant losses to local shopkeepers and triggering concern among residents over the lack of a nearby dedicated fire station.

According to reports, the fire broke out during the night, rapidly engulfing the shops and causing extensive damage to the commercial establishments. Goods and other property kept inside the shops were reportedly destroyed in the blaze, leaving the affected shopkeepers facing substantial financial losses.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding fire-fighting and emergency response infrastructure in Wakura, with residents urging the authorities to establish a dedicated fire station in the area.

Residents said that the absence of a fire station in close proximity could result in delays in reaching the site of fire emergencies, particularly during night hours, potentially allowing fires to spread rapidly and causing greater damage to property and livelihoods.

The residents appealed to the district administration and concerned authorities to examine the demand for establishing a fire station in Wakura on priority, citing the area’s growing population, expanding commercial activity and increasing need for emergency services.

They said a dedicated fire station would help ensure faster response during fire incidents, reduce the risk of extensive property damage and strengthen the overall emergency preparedness of the area.

The affected shopkeepers and residents have urged the administration to assess the losses caused by the incident and extend necessary assistance to those who have suffered damage.

Residents expressed hope that the administration would take the matter seriously and initiate appropriate measures to strengthen fire safety and emergency response mechanisms in Wakura, so that similar incidents in the future do not result in major losses.(KNC)
