Budgam, April 26, KNT: Eight sheep died under suspected toxic conditions in the Yarigund area of Kawoosa in Magam belt of Budgam district, prompting police to register a case and initiate an investigation into the incident.

Local sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the animals were grazing in nearby fields when they allegedly consumed an unknown substance. Soon after, their condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to their deaths, they said, adding that the exact cause remains unconfirmed.

The deceased sheep belonged to Jan Mohammad Bhat son of Abdul Rashid, Ghulam Mohammad Ganaie son of Habibullah Ganaie, and Ghulam Mohammad Ganaie son of Abdul Aziz Ganie, all residents of Yarigund Kawoosa.

Police reached the spot after receiving information and began preliminary inquiry procedures. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the nature of the substance and circumstances that led to the deaths.

The incident has caused concern among local villagers and livestock owners in the area, with uncertainty prevailing until the cause is established. [KNT]
