Wet Spell To Continue In J&K: Heavy Showers Expected Aug 12, 16-19; Landslide Risk Warned: MeT

 

Srinagar, August 12:(GNS) Parts of Jammu and Kashmir received significant rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Pulwama recording the highest at 57.5 mm. Poonch recorded 53 mm, Awantipora 47.8 mm and Rajouri 44 mm, the Meteorological Department said.

 

An official of MeT Centre Srinagar told GNS that a spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers is likely at many places on August 12, with brief intense heavy showers at a few districts during afternoon till evening hours.

 

From August 13 to 15, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. Brief intense showers are likely at a few places during early morning, morning and late afternoon to evening hours.

 

Between August 16 and 19, a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places. Heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers are likely at a few districts during early morning and afternoon hours.

 

From August 20 to 22, light rain and thundershowers are possible at scattered places.

 

The MeT department has warned of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers during August 16-19 at a few districts of Jammu division and brief intense showers at one or two districts of Kashmir division.

 

It added that torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers may trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable places.

 

People, tourists and transporters have been advised to remain cautious and follow the administration’s guidelines.(GNS)
