Srinagar, March 30: The celebration of the International Day of Older Persons (2025–2026) was marked with great enthusiasm through a “One Day Intergenerational Mela with Senior Citizens and Youth”, successfully organised today at Iqbal Memorial Trust, Srinagar.

The programme was conducted under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in collaboration with Anugraha Regional Resource and Training Centre. The event witnessed active participation from senior citizens, youth, and various stakeholders, providing a vibrant platform for meaningful interaction and strengthening intergenerational bonds. The initiative aimed to promote mutual understanding, respect, dignity, and emotional well-being among generations.

Dr. Aabha Chaudhary, Founder and Chairperson of Anugraha, joined the event virtually and addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of dignity, honour, care, and love for older persons in society.

The programme received valuable local support from the Department of Social Welfare J&K, Sharp Sight Eye Hospital, Chotay Taray Foundation and Iqbal Memorial Trust. The event was graced by several eminent personalities including Ms. Hina Qadri, Principal Iqbal Memorial Trust Bemina; Ms. Nazia Wani, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Srinagar; Dr. Touseef Ahmed, Chairman Kashmir Concern; Dr. Chintanjeet Kour, Administrator Chotay Taray Foundation; Mr. Arjumand Makhdoomi, Chairman Chotay Taray Foundation; Mr. Mir Farooq, Senior Prosecuting Officer; and Mr. Bilal Wani along with faculty members and distinguished guests.

A series of engaging activities were organised, including cultural interactions, awareness sessions, free medical check-ups, a plantation drive, a signature campaign against elder abuse, and recreational programmes. These activities highlighted the importance of elderly care, active ageing, and the need to bridge the generational gap by fostering inclusive community spaces.

The programme commenced at 10:30 AM and concluded at 2:00 PM, marking a meaningful and successful effort toward building a compassionate and inclusive society. The event was coordinated by Advocate Bisma Khan and Mr. Bilal Bhat, whose efforts ensured the smooth conduct of the programme.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks and felicitation of students and registered senior citizens of Ahatta Waqar Srinagar by the Worthy Principal of Iqbal Memorial Trust Bemina. Organisers expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants, partners, and supporters for making the event a grand success.
