Ganderbal, May 21 (KNC): Residents of Wakura village in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have demanded immediate repair and macadamisation of roads in the area, alleging negligence and inaction by the concerned authorities despite repeated appeals.

Locals said the main road connecting Wakura with adjoining areas has developed deep potholes and damaged stretches, causing severe inconvenience to commuters, pedestrians and motorists.

Residents alleged that several representations were submitted to the concerned departments, but no effective steps have been taken to improve the condition of the road.

“The road is in a pathetic condition and travelling has become extremely difficult. Authorities have failed to address our grievances,” residents said.

They further claimed that several portions of the road were dug up for developmental works and later left unattended, worsening the overall condition.

Locals said stagnant water, muddy patches and garbage accumulated along the roadside have added to public inconvenience and created unhealthy conditions in the area.

A local resident, Basit Bashir, said incomplete work at various spots has made the road unsafe for commuters. “The dug-up portions, along with waterlogging and waste accumulation, are creating serious problems for the public,” he said.

Residents added that the situation worsens during rainfall as water accumulates in potholes and damaged portions, making vehicular movement risky and increasing the chances of accidents.

Another resident, Ehsaan Yousuf, said continuous water stagnation is further damaging the road surface and affecting smooth transportation. He added that several vehicles have suffered damage due to the poor condition of the road.

Residents said the road is an important link frequently used by school buses and public transport vehicles, and its deteriorating condition poses a serious threat to commuters, especially schoolchildren.

They also blamed the absence of a proper drainage system for persistent waterlogging and further deterioration of the road infrastructure.

The residents appealed to the district administration and concerned departments to immediately undertake repair and macadamisation of the road and construct a proper drainage system to provide relief to the public. (KNC)
