Baramulla, June 06 (KNC): Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations (DCO), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, IAS, on Saturday appreciated the preparedness of Baramulla district for the forthcoming Census 2027 during a comprehensive review meeting held at Dak Bungalow, Baramulla.
The meeting, chaired jointly by CPCO Amit Sharma and Principal Census Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Syed Fakhruddin Ahmad, reviewed the progress and preparedness of the ongoing House Listing Operations (HLO), being conducted from June 1 to June 30 as part of the Census exercise.
Addressing a large gathering of enumerators, supervisors and officials, Amit Sharma described the Census as the country’s largest administrative and statistical exercise, underlining its crucial role in governance, policy formulation and socio-economic development. He briefed media representatives about the objectives, methodology and major features of Census 2027.
Praising the district administration’s efforts, Sharma said the Census would be carried out in a systematic and scientific manner through designated field staff. He highlighted key aspects of the enumeration process, including household listing, collection of demographic and socio-economic data, adoption of digital technology and safeguards to ensure transparency, confidentiality and accuracy in data collection.
He informed that citizens can seek information or clarifications related to Census 2027 through the dedicated toll-free helpline number 1855 and appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to census officials by providing accurate information during the survey process.
“Public participation is vital for generating reliable data that serves as the foundation for informed policymaking and development planning,” Sharma said.
Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Syed Fakhruddin Ahmad stated that all administrative and logistical arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of Census activities across the district. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among all stakeholders and reiterated the administration’s commitment towards achieving comprehensive coverage and maintaining high standards in data collection.
He also directed field-level officers to provide full support to census personnel and ensure strict adherence to prescribed guidelines.
A key feature of the meeting was an extensive brainstorming session focusing on strategies to ensure complete household coverage, including migratory populations, and strengthening field-level census operations.
Commending the dedication of enumerators and supervisors, Amit Sharma urged them to discharge their responsibilities with commitment and professionalism. He emphasized effective coordination, quality and timely data collection, and strict compliance with census norms to ensure the success of the exercise.
The meeting also reviewed field preparedness and various operational aspects of the Census process. Joint Chief Principal Census Officer Arun Kumar briefed participants on the monitoring mechanism for field operations and stressed the importance of real-time supervision and tracking of data collection activities.
Among those present were the Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Charge Officers, Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer, District Coordinator for Census 2027 Baramulla and other concerned officers and officials.(KNC)
