Baramulla, August 20 (KNZ/TMJ): In a major crackdown against illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals, teams of the Geology and Mining Department, in coordination with Baramulla Police, have seized 14 vehicles within two days across different parts of the district.

The seized vehicles include 11 tippers, one JCB and two tractors. The enforcement teams carried out inspections and checking operations in Tangmarg, Pattan, Sopore and Baramulla, acting against vehicles found allegedly involved in illegal mining and transportation of minor minerals.

The coordinated action reflects the administration’s continued focus on protecting natural resources and preventing unauthorised extraction of minerals, which can adversely affect riverbeds, agricultural land and the local environment.

Officials said the enforcement drive has been intensified and field teams are maintaining close surveillance in vulnerable areas to identify and curb illegal mining activities.

The District Mineral Officer (DMO), Baramulla, has adopted a strict approach towards violations and directed field teams to take action against offenders in accordance with the prescribed rules.

Authorities have also urged vehicle operators and individuals engaged in mining-related activities to obtain the requisite permissions and comply with all applicable regulations.

The Geology and Mining Department, in coordination with the Police Department, is expected to continue such joint enforcement operations across Baramulla district to ensure effective regulation of mineral extraction and transportation.
