Jammu, Aug 11 (KNO): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday said it has registered a case against a former Patwari in Kishtwar for allegedly demanding Rs 5 lakh in bribe and accepting Rs 3 lakh through cheque for issuing a Fard.

In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), an ACB spokesperson said a case (FIR No. 02/2026) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended, has been registered at Police Station ACB Doda against Mohd Arif Mir, the then Patwari of Patwar Halqa Trigam, Kishtwar.

The spokesperson said the case was initiated following a verification conducted by ACB DKR Jammu into allegations that Mir, while serving as a public servant, abused his official position by demanding Rs 5 lakh from the complainant for issuance of a Fard and accepting Rs 3 lakh through cheque as illegal gratification, after which the Fard was issued.

During the investigation, the ACB obtained a search warrant from the competent court and conducted a search at the residential house of the accused Patwari at Malipeth, near Grid Station, Kishtwar, in the presence of a magistrate and independent witnesses. “Further investigation of the case is in progress,” the spokesperson said.—(KNO)
