Srinagar Sep 21: Continuing its sustained enforcement drive against illegal mining, extraction and transportation of minerals, Police in Baramulla, Shopian and Ganderbal districts have taken decisive action against vehicles found allegedly involved in unauthorized mining activities.

In Baramulla, Police Post Mirgund seized a tipper bearing registration number JK05B-8719, which was found carrying illegally extracted boulders. In a separate action, Police Post Wussan seized another tipper bearing registration number JK03L-4402, carrying illegally extracted soil. Necessary legal action has been initiated against both vehicles under the relevant provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act.

In Shopian, Police Post Berthipora, during routine patrolling in the Berthipora area, intercepted and seized four dumpers allegedly involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. In connection with the incident, FIR No. 98/2026 has been registered at Police Station Keller under relevant provisions of law, and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, in Ganderbal, Police seized 14 vehicles, including 11 tippers and 3 tractors, for allegedly extracting and transporting minor minerals without valid authorization across the district. The vehicles were seized on the spot, and the matter was subsequently taken up with the concerned Geology & Mining Department, which imposed the requisite fines under the relevant provisions of law.

The coordinated enforcement action reflects the continued efforts of J&K Police to curb unauthorized mining and protect the region’s natural resources. Police have reiterated that strict legal action will continue against individuals found involved in the illegal extraction, transportation and trade of minor minerals.
