Jammu, Aug 3 (GNS): Traffic on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway was halted from both sides on Monday evening after heavy rainfall rendered a stretch near Dawal Bridge in Udhampur’s Samroli area unsafe.
Officials told GNS that the highway has been reduced to a single carriageway at the Dawal slide point, with the road surface turning slushy, muddy and extremely slippery. The conditions made it unsafe for vehicles to move.
Teams from NHAI along with machinery and Traffic Police personnel are on the spot working to clear the stretch and restore movement.
In view of the situation, commuters have been advised not to undertake travel on NH-44 until the road is cleared and officially declared safe.
Authorities also urged people not to believe in rumors and to check the latest road status through the Traffic Police’s official Twitter handle, Facebook page and Traffic Control Units.(GNS)
