Pulwama, May 1, KNT: Amid scenes of deep sorrow and grief, thousands of people on Friday gathered at Tiken village in Pulwama to offer Namaz-e-Janaza for four-year-old Mohammad Hanzala, whose tragic death has left the entire region in mourning.
The minor had gone missing after accidentally slipping into a stream near Dubjan Bridge in Shopian on April 27. After an extensive and tireless five-day search operation, his body was finally retrieved from the Ranbiara nallah in the Hirpora area, bringing a heartbreaking end to the hopes of his family and the community.
As the news of the recovery spread, a wave of grief engulfed Tiken and adjoining areas. People from different parts of Pulwama and nearby districts rushed to the village to participate in the funeral prayers, expressing solidarity with the bereaved family.
The funeral witnessed an overwhelming turnout, with mourners struggling to hold back tears as the small coffin was carried towards the graveyard. The atmosphere was filled with emotional scenes, as relatives, neighbors, and well-wishers mourned the untimely loss of the innocent child.
Local residents described Hanzala as a cheerful and beloved child, whose sudden demise has shaken the entire locality. Many called it a tragic reminder of the unpredictable dangers posed by fast-flowing streams, especially during this time of the year.
Meanwhile, people widely appreciated the relentless efforts of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, SDRF teams, and local volunteers who worked round the clock during the rescue operation. Special mention was made of civilian rescue experts who joined the operation to assist in locating the body.
The bereaved family has appealed to the authorities to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future, including the installation of safety barriers and warning systems near vulnerable water bodies.
